BJJ Drop-Ins in Amsterdam: Everything You Need to Know

The less convenient part is figuring out the practical details: which gyms accept drop-ins, how much they cost, which classes you can attend, where they are and whether you need to arrange your visit in advance. Here’s what you need to know before booking a BJJ drop-in in Amsterdam.

Which BJJ gyms in Amsterdam accept drop-ins?

There are several BJJ academies across Amsterdam, varying in drop-in price, type of instruction, quality of facilities and the overall training experience.

Two particularly great options for visitors are Roger Gracie Academy Amsterdam and 10th Planet Amsterdam. Both actively welcome drop-ins and offer great value for money for visiting grapplers.

Roger Gracie Academy offers both gi and no-gi BJJ, with a fundamentals-driven approach reflecting the wider Roger Gracie lineage. 10th Planet, meanwhile, is dedicated to no-gi and offers the opportunity to experience Eddie Bravo’s distinctive approach to Jiu-Jitsu. Two great gyms offering two very different styles of Jiu-Jitsu.

You can find BJJ gyms in Amsterdam that are available for drop-ins here, and book your session directly through DOJOTAP.

How much does a BJJ drop-in cost in Amsterdam?

You should expect to pay around €25–€30 for a BJJ drop-in in Amsterdam, although prices vary between academies depending on the gym, facilities and type of training on offer. If you’re only in Amsterdam for a few days, paying per session is usually the simplest option. It also gives you the freedom to train at different academies rather than committing to one gym for your entire trip.

For longer stays, some gyms offer weekly passes or short-term membership options, which can work out better value if you plan to train several times. Before committing, though, we recommend starting with a drop-in and experiencing a few different gyms. Amsterdam has a varied BJJ scene, and trying different rooms gives you a chance to experience different coaching styles, training partners and approaches to Jiu-Jitsu.

Once you find a gym you particularly enjoy, you can always ask about a weekly pass or another short-term option for the rest of your stay.

What classes can I attend?

You can view each gym’s full timetable on its DOJOTAP listing. All classes shown as available can be booked for a drop-in, so once you’ve made your booking, you’re good to go.

Most classes are open to all belt levels, including white belts. The main exception is advanced classes, which are typically reserved for blue belts and above. Depending on the academy, you’ll find gi, no-gi, fundamentals and other sessions throughout the week.

And don’t worry if you don’t speak Dutch. Amsterdam has a very international BJJ community and instruction is usually in English, so visiting grapplers should have no problem following the class.

What should I bring?

Generally, you’ll want to bring flip-flops or slides for walking off the mats, a towel if you plan to shower, and some form of hydration. It’s worth checking the gym’s DOJOTAP listing before you go, where you can see exactly what facilities and amenities are available, including showers, changing rooms and things like soap or toiletries. That should give you a better idea of what you actually need to bring with you.

For training, bring clean gear appropriate for the class you’ve booked. If you’re training gi, bring a clean gi; if you’re training no-gi, bring a clean rashguard and grappling shorts or spats. You don’t need to wear the gym’s colours or affiliation at gyms listed on DOJOTAP.

If you don’t have everything with you, you may still have options. RGA Amsterdam offers rental gis, which is particularly useful if you don’t want to pack one for your trip. If you’re missing a rashguard, you can typically buy one at the gym and take it home with you afterwards.
