Book a drop-in at three of Barcelona's best BJJ gyms (Coragem Jiu-Jitsu, Gullo Jiu-Jitsu and Circle Academy) for €20 a class. Bookings are confirmed instantly, so there's no need to message the gym first.
Each gym's listing shows its live timetable, head coach, facilities and kit requirements, so you can compare academies and choose the session that suits your training and your trip.
Barcelona hosted the 2009 ADCC World Championship, the first time the event was held in Europe, and the city's academies now represent several of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's best-known lineages. Circle Academy's Javier Feliubadaló comes from Cicero Costha's lineage, and Gullo Jiu-Jitsu's Raphael Gullo from Marcelo “Cyborg” Siqueira's.
Barcelona is also home to several other well-known academies. Atos Jiu-Jitsu Barcelona is part of André Galvão's Atos team and is led by his brother, 3rd-degree black belt Gustavo Galvão, who has taught in the city since 2010; it runs gi, no-gi and kids' classes. 10th Planet Barcelona in Gràcia teaches no-gi only, following Eddie Bravo's 10th Planet system under head instructor Manu Perez. Method BCN, coached by Francesco, was featured by BJJ Globetrotters in 2026. For multi-discipline combat sports gyms with jiu-jitsu on the timetable, El Club de la Lucha in Eixample and Templum BCN on Carrer d'Entença both run BJJ classes alongside boxing and other disciplines.
BJJ gyms are spread across Barcelona rather than concentrated in one area. Gullo Jiu-Jitsu's Sant Antoni academy is in Eixample, the city's central grid and the easiest area to reach from most city-centre hotels, and Gullo also has a second academy, Almar, by the beach at Port Olímpic. Circle Academy is in Gràcia, just north of Eixample, and Coragem Jiu-Jitsu is in Les Corts, to the west near Camp Nou.
Dropping into a new academy is one of the best parts of training while you travel, and a little preparation goes a long way. Before you go, check the gym's kit requirements: some academies require a specific gi colour or no-gi kit, and some ask visitors not to wear another team's patches. Booking ahead also means the coach knows to expect you.
When you arrive, introduce yourself and mention your belt, your home academy and any injuries. In your first rounds, let your partner set the intensity, and check the gym's rules on leg locks before you use them.
If you're in Barcelona for more than a few days, consider training at more than one academy. Each gym has its own coaching approach and training culture, and comparing them is one of the best ways to sharpen your game.
Three of Barcelona's leading academies take instant drop-in bookings through DOJOTAP. Which is best for you depends on how you train:
A drop-in costs €20 at each academy bookable on DOJOTAP. That's a single fixed price for one class or open mat, paid online when you book, with no mat fee to settle at the door.
Open a gym's page, pick a session from its timetable and pay online. Booking is instant: you'll receive a confirmation email straight away, and the academy is notified of your booking, so there's no need to message them first. Timetables show live availability, so you can plan your training before you arrive.
Yes. All three academies teach students from complete beginners to competitors, so white belts are welcome. Arrive 10–15 minutes early, introduce yourself, and tell the coach your belt and experience so they can pair you with suitable training partners.
Classes are taught in Spanish, but coaches at all three academies also speak English and can explain techniques to you in English. You don't need any Spanish to drop in.
Yes. All three academies run both gi and no-gi jiu-jitsu classes. Coragem has a strict dress code: a white gi for gi classes, and an all-black or ranked kit for no-gi.
Bring a clean gi or no-gi kit, flip-flops and a water bottle. Keep your nails short, and remove jewellery before class. All three academies have changing rooms and showers.
No gi? Circle Academy offers rentals, and Gullo rents gis for €5 if you let them know in advance (wear a rashguard underneath).
Yes. Circle Academy and Gullo Jiu-Jitsu both run bookable open mats, and Gullo's is open to gi and no-gi. Open mats are a good way to get plenty of rounds in with local grapplers, so check each gym's timetable for upcoming dates.
